IS IT GONE YET? Thorough plaque removal

A couple weeks ago, we touched on the subject of thorough plaque removal. In this article, we tell you about some of the risks associated with plaque build-up that might not be on your radar when it comes to your child’s oral hygiene.

Plaque Causes Inflammation
We all know that plaque can cause tooth decay and gum disease. What you probably didn’t know is that plaque can cause inflammation which is harmful to your entire body. As we age, inflammation and gum disease can cause problems you might not associate with oral hygiene.

  1. It may increase the risk of heart disease
  2. Experts agree that the inflammation caused by excess plaque on your teeth may be linked to the same plaque in your arteries that causes heart attacks.

  3. It may also increase the risk of stroke
  4. Preexisting inflammation in the body (which is exacerbated by the plaque on your teeth) can contribute to the onset of a stroke.

  5. It’s linked to Alzheimer’s Disease
  6. A new study has found a link between gum disease and greater rates of cognitive decline in people with early stages of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Although these three health risks might not be on your mind at this point, when caring for your children, helping them develop a healthy-mouth habit now, will pay off for them down the line.
